Gradient

There is a popular story that says that, when saying goodbye to his son, a father gives him a last gift –
a piece of paper that reads: “This shall pass too.”

The son asks what this gift is, and the father replies that it is the best he can give him: “When you
are having a bad time, I want you to open this paper and read it. And when you are on your good
streak, likewise read this piece of paper. Because everything is fleeting, everything needs to be
understood, and it is necessary to be prepared and be aware of that”.

This is my Gradient series: depending on how you look at it, it is dark, but when you move it a little
you’ ll see that it is lightened.

The passage of tones is almost imperceptible but, suddenly, you already realize that you are in
another tonality – everything is fleeting, everything changes.

The lesson is to take advantage of the good times because they will be passengers, and not to be
discouraged by the bad ones, because they will also be passengers, and better if we are prepared for
them. When you least realize it, you will already be leaving the bad moment, for the change of
colors, shades, from dark to light.

It is like dawn and dusk. When do they happen? When we realize it, it is already light or dark. Both
mature little by little, but so little by little, in such a gradient way, that it is almost imperceptible to
us. Change just comes…
